The Women’s Political Caucus expresses our deep disappointment in the outcome of the 2024 election. While this loss is a setback, we remain unwavering in our commitment to increase women’s participation in the political process.
Kamala Harris has proven herself to be an exceptionally qualified leader. Her extensive experience in public service, including as a U.S. Senator, Attorney General, and Vice President, made her a formidable candidate. Throughout her tenure, Harris has prioritized issues of racial justice, economic equality, and, most significantly, the protection of women’s rights.
It is important to note that despite this election outcome, there has been progress on reproductive freedom. Seven states have taken significant steps to expand abortion protections, ensuring that women have access to reproductive health services despite ongoing attempts to roll back these rights at the federal level. These victories, while important, highlight that our work is far from done. We must continue to fight to protect and expand reproductive rights, not only through legislative efforts but by electing more women to positions of power who will advocate for these vital issues.
Women must be supported at every level of government — from local offices to the highest echelons of power — in order to create a more just, equitable society. We will continue to champion the advancement of women in politics and support candidates who align with our mission.
The path forward is clear: we must not let this setback deter us. WPCNJ is more determined than ever to ensure that the voices of women are heard and represented in every corner of our government.
